The Thrillers! – by The Tune Squad
The Thrillers by the Tune Squad! It rolls well off the tongue! Well the last 2 weeks we have been working diligently to create our own group radio show!! We started last week and made some progress in the planning of our show (you can read more about that here.) This week was the execution of the show! So we all met up on tuesday night and really got to work on the show. We made a google doc and wrote up a basic outline for our show. We talked about the exact details of the story and all that and where we wanted commercials and breaks and where we wanted narration or where we wanted the actual story. We then talked about what kind of sound effects we wanted and where they should go in relation with the story. Basically, it is a modern sequel to the Killers, the Tune Squad (Geoffry Cunningham, Emma Callahan, and Detective Longs) are tracking down mafia boss Gambino because they found out his family is responsible for the death of Ole Anderson. But that’s just the intro, i am not going to give away the whole story! Emma Callahan is the character for Stephanie Henderson, Detective Longs is for Brianna Martino, and Gambino is from Brian Christiansen. We recorded all of our sounds in the convergence center as a group using one laptop microphone (mine.) I volunteered to put together the show in audacity because it would be easier to do it on one laptop than to have sounds from all these different places. We already had all the sounds together totalling 20+ minutes and it was just up to me to trim them, make them sound better, and adjust the volume levels. This wasn’t that hard for me because i have a lot of editing experience, (mainly video, but video has audio and it’s basically doing the same thing.) the only hard part was getting the background noise out of the recorded clips because we could not get a private room in the convergence center, but it didn’t take long to remove the noise because Audacity has a tool that does it for you! It probably sounds bad and like i did ALL the work but that is not the case, honestly, i just did the measly task of actually physically editing everything but we decided and worked on it as a group and i just happened to be the one who put it all together. Anyways, we have bumpers and commercials from all 4 members of our team, and then one random added commercial i made in a car ride to baltimore because i was bored, it is a good commercial though and should honestly be used on the real radio. I got all our sound effects from freesound.org and everything else was student made! I even used the theme song i made because it sounds really good for like an investigative themed show! I really enjoyed doing this project because i really like working in groups and I really enjoyed putting together a full 20 minute show with my team!
